It was too nice to stay inside. Beautiful blue skies were ours today. So what do you on a day too nice to stay indoors? Why you gather together about 60 people, some of which will be players and some of which will be the spectators/cheerleaders. Its time to play ball! Bean Bag Baseball that is.
The team I was on, the team known as “Slam it Home Baby!”.
Our opponents, that we slaughtered by the way, was called Sillar’s Sluggers.
So how do you play? Each batter gets three bean bags and they have to stand behind the line on the ground. The bean bags are then tossed or thrown depending on the batter’s preference. The object is to get the bean bag into one of the holes in the board shown above., The top two holes are marked with the letter B which stands for Ball and in that case they get another bean bag. We all wanted to get our bean bags into the hole marked HR which, of course, stands for Home Run. Those were few and far between! Most of us were able to get the bean bags into the holes marked 1, 2 or 3 indicating how many bases you take.
Ahhhh, yes, the bases. Look at the bottom of the picture below. Just right of center. See that chair? That’s 3rd base.
Yes, chairs were the bases. It makes sense, it could be awhile before a batter gets a bean bag in the hole, one must sit!
So I was first up for my team and believe me, its not easy! Do-able, but not easy. We went through several batters and before we knew it our 1st inning was over and we didn’t get a hit.
Marlene tried to no avail….
Gary didn’t get anything…..three up, three down.
Now this game belongs to Jeannette and obviously she has played this a a lot.
Firsts thing we know, she’s sittin’ on first. Literally.
Next batter up hits a triple and there’s Jeannette tagging second…….
…..and headin’ for third!
Jerry, 84 years young, taking his turn at bat.
Well, we won our first game. We found our stride and started knocking out double and triples.
We then watched Dee’s Doggies……
…..play Hanne’s Bad Asses. At least that’s what I think their team name was.
Of course you have to have a team huddle! Even in bean bag baseball!
Patti made a double!
We played the winner of that game. We were doing pretty good because our players, like Karen were getting hits!
My turn at bat.
I got on base with a triple. Here I am heading towards third.
Here comes Bob Fisher headin’ home.
We ended up losing this game and we were out of the playoffs. It was fine with us if you want to know the truth. The food was being served during the very last game and we spent our time where the serving table, the grill and tables and chairs were.
So Bob missed out on a great afternoon. He was finishing up an electrical job he was doing for our friends, Al and Carol. He was electrifying their carport like he did ours.
It was a fun afternoon and I’m so glad I got to play.
