Looks like spring is in the air here in South Dakota. Too nice to be indoors, Bob and I took off and went to town.
We went to a store called Menard’s. First time we had seen this store. Think Lowe’s or Home Depot. A nice store, has had everything we needed so far and seems to sell things that the others don’t. For instance, jeans, mattresses, a large candy selection, T-shirts and socks. Now the things they do sell that the others do also, I have to say, this store has it hands down in the display department.
The downside? Lowe’s is also in town which is a plus in our book and Menard’s doesn’t offer the military discount which its competition does. Lowe’s is just a little farther down the road, no big deal in the scheme of things, but if we were only going in to spend a few dollars we would probably go to Menard’s just because its a bit closer.
We will be so glad when we learn the lay the of land here! After leaving Menard’s we wanted to go to Walmart’s to pick up some Pepsi’s for me. We made a right out of the parking lot and got back on the interstate and got off two exits later. Each exit is about a mile apart for Rapid City. Well, it seems we should have gotten off at the first exit and we were in a part of town we hadn’t been in yet. Lost. Not a good thing for Bob.
We drove around and around and finally came across a familiar street. We turned and got our bearings, such as they are, and figured out how to get to Walmart’s. Whew!
Bob wanted to get some filters for our water filtration system and we were heading towards that department when we heard….”Are you two lost?” We didn’t pay attention because we were walking with a purpose and certainly didn’t look like we were lost. Then we heard it again, only this time a little louder and certainly directed to us. We looked towards the voice and our jaws just dropped! We couldn’t believe we had run into someone we knew in Walmart’s in South Dakota. Here we had run into Buck and Jean O"Neal from Quail Run. There was a reason we got lost! If we hadn’t, we wouldn’t have run into these Quail Run friends as they were already heading towards the check out when they saw us.
Yep, a small, small, world!
We finished up our shopping and when we left the parking lot we made a left. And one mile down the road, on the right, was Menard’s! Oh boy do we have to learn the lay of the land!
