6/3/2011 Shopping, Games and Airplanes

I didn’t know this morning when we got up that it would be an all day spending spree.

After hanging around the campground this morning doing our normal day off morning things we went downtown. First stop was the gas pump. A buck twenty five later and we had a full tank of diesel. Thankfully, we’re under four dollars a gallon again. Only by 1/10th of a cent, but we’ll take it. What really hurt was as soon as we got off base we saw it for $3.79! We’ll take a ride next time before we fill up to see who the best price.

Next stop was Kohl’s. I had a 15% off coupon and Bob needed new sneakers. He found a pair he liked right away and they were in his size and they were already on sale so that task was quick and painless. Shoes and two pair of shorts later we were out the door.

Next stop Best Buy to get a new “card” for his camera. Of course just at that moment the battery went dead on the camera so a pack of batteries was added to our list. This is good, a pack of batteries and the card. Less than twenty dollars. Yeah, right, like anybody gets out of Best Buy for less than a twenty bucks!

We were just strolling through the aisles and we heard this familiar tune. We both knew we had heard this little ditty before but I don’t think it was registering for either one of us where we knew it from. Like we were on automatic pilot we followed the sound. We stopped before a large flat screen and the tune we knew so well came flooding back to us! It’s the Donkey Kong song from Nintendo! Now Bob and I used to have a Super Nintendo years ago and we just loved playing Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong. We’ve often said we wished that we hadn’t sold it on EBAY when we were downsizing. We played with the sample game set up for a few and I got a look from Bob that said,,,,I gotta get me one of these!

We found a salesman because it had been quite awhile since we had bought a system like this. He explained all the differences between X-Box, Wii and one other one. We opted for Wii. Add to the basic set an extra set of controls for me so we can play against each other and two games in addition to the ones that came with it and as you can imagine we’re walking out several hundred dollars poorer.

With as much as it seems to rain here it will give us something to do to pass the time so it will be money well spent.

When we got back to the base a quick stop at the commissary was made and it was back to the campground. We sat outside and watched the pilots take their planes through their paces in preparation for the air show this coming weekend.

The Army’s Golden Eagles, the parachute team, is slated to be part of the show tomorrow and Sunday. I’m hoping they do one of those group formations.
