11/10/07 A Trip to Silver City

Today we traveled to Silver City to check it out. I don't know what it is we were supposed to see here but I think we missed it. We did see in a travel magazine that they had a copper mine and I think we saw it from the road but I couldn't guarantee that. We didn't get near it anyway. So we rode around but again didn't see too much.

On the way out of town we found a really cool place to camp. I wish we had known this was here. It's called City of Rocks.

11/9/07 Another one.....

....lazy day that is. We didn't do much of anything today. There isn't a whole lot in this area we want to see so we just kinda laid low. With fuel prices up over three bucks a gallon we don't do rides just for the heck of it anymore. I'm sure you can all relate to that!

11/08/07 A Laid Back Day

We're all settled in The Little Vineyard RV Park in Deming, New Mexico. Its a decent park but not a speck of green anywhere! They do have clotheslines though! They came in handy when I did our laundry.

We didn't do a whole lot today, in fact we both spent the day on our computers. Bob checking out the area attractions and me getting this blog caught up. With periods of having no computer (Florida), periods of having a computer but no connection and the problems this site has had with bloggers uploading pictures, well, I've gotten really behind in the posts. I'm doing my best to get it caught it up.

We had eighty degrees here today. We love New Mexico!

After dinner we watched the next episode of Survivor and just kicked back. We'll get and about tomorrow.

Before I close this I need to wish a very dear friend, a friend of 46 years, a Happy Birthday. So Susan,,,,,hope you had a great one!

11/07/07 Moving Day

It's time to say goodbye to Elephant Butte and move on.

While I was getting things ready Bob drove out to the local gas station to fuel the truck. When we left for Florida diesel was $3.14 a gallon. When we returned it was $3.19. While he was pumping it jumped to $3.39! Lucky for us he wasn't two minutes later in getting to the pumps. Twenty cent increase! We're hearing by summer it will be $4.00 or more a gallon. I can see where we'll have to get to a park and stay for at least two weeks and move just fifty miles up the road and stay for two more. Stop the insanity!

We took our time getting packed up and road ready. We said so long to the very nice people we met in Cedar Cove RV Park and finally made it out to the highway around 11:30. We had a pretty easy run today as we only traveled about 150 miles. We headed towards Deming, New Mexico. It seems like a central place to be since it is in the middle of several places we'll take day trips to.

It didn't take us long to get set up and as soon as we were I drove two city blocks to the local Hundred Dollar Store. We had nothing in the house to eat so I had a pretty big grocery shopping to do. One hundred and thirty nine dollars later I made my way back home. I've got enough for eleven dinnertime meals.

After steak sandwiches (homemade) for dinner we kicked back and watched TV for the evening.

11/6/07 We're NOT Twenty Anymore!

Whew, home again.

Today reality set in. We're not 20 anymore! We were supposed to leave today and head south but we just didn't have it in us. Bob never got out of his recliner today and the only reason I bothered even getting dressed was because I had to go to the office to make arrangements to stay another day.

We didn't do a thing! Our baggage was never unpacked as we just pulled out what we needed to get through the day.

That's it for today, not much to tell.

11/05/07 Back to New Mexico

As Bob says, we've been on a vacation from vacation and now its time for it to end.

We made short order of packing our belongings and realized that even though check out is 11 a.m. from the hotel our flight didn't leave until 7 p.m. tonight. We've got a lot of hours to spend somewhere.

Since we were approximately 20 miles from St. Petersburg we decided to go there and have lunch on "The Pier".

It was a gorgeous day so eating outside on the patio of one of the restaurants seemed like the perfect thing to do. We watched fisherman bring in their catches, the birds beg for food, of which they got quite a bit from us, and the tourists taking leisurely strolls around the pier.

Bob had a "Philly" cheesesteak and I had my standard hamburger.

All too soon our vacation from vacation was coming to an end and it was time to head to the airport. We turned in our car, went through security and found our gate.

And then we were on our way back to New Mexico.

11/4/07 We Were Robbed!

That's right! We were robbed last night!

Here we were looking forward to our extra hour of sleep due to the clocks being turned back and some idiot decided that 3 a.m. was a good time to pull the fire alarm! We had been in bed about an hour and were both in a sound sleep when this ungodly noise woke us. Bob ran to the door and looked out and saw people in their jammies running down the hall. He yelled to me to get dressed, we had to get out. Keep in mind we were on the 5th floor and elevators were out of the question.

After fumbling for clothes and grabbing money, ID and car keys we made our way down the stairwell to join hundreds of others in the parking lot. Flashing lights were everywhere since the fire department had arrived. We waited for about 40 minutes before we were given the all clear and allowed back in the hotel. Of course by the time we got back to our room we were wide awake and turned the TV back on. So much for our extra hour of sleep! We were robbed of it!

We finally did manage to get back to our dreams but it wasn't a much needed good nights sleep. We got up around 10 and were supposed to call Marv and Vi to let them know what time we would be over. We were supposed to have lunch with them. Well, needless to say that call didn't get made right away. In fact, it was closer to 1:30 before we were ready to venture out. We arrived at their place a little after two and sat in the yard talking.

I enjoyed sitting there just looking at all the "green". Green grass, green bushes, green trees,,,,,,I miss green! The desert is just so, so brown!

We had dinner with Marv and Vi at a local restaurant and since it was a buffet type dinner we all had something different.

Last year when we were in Florida I mentioned to Marv several times that all I ever saw him in was brown or beige or black shirts. When we saw him on Friday he had a striped shirt on that had some color in it and I said to him that I was glad to see he got some color in his life. Today he put on a special shirt, just for me. He such a sweetheart!

We sat in the restaurant for awhile talking and had a picture taken of the four of us before we left.

We dropped Marv and Vi off at their place and declined their offer to come in for awhile. Its been a busy weekend and we still had to pack up our belongings for our flight home tomorrow.

As we were saying so long to these special friends I couldn't help but notice a tear in Marv's eye as he hugged me and said, "We love you kids so much, you don't know what it means to me that you came to see us." Yeah, Marv, I do.

So we made our way back to the hotel in time to catch the first episode of this years Amazing Race, a favorite of mine.

No packing got done, it can wait till morning.
