10/23 - 10/31 Elephant Butte

With the cold weather in Santa Fe it was time to move south.

A picture of the scenery we passed on the way.

We set out for Elephant Butte just five miles from Truth or Consequences. It was an easy run, just about 125 miles.

We decided to stay in Cedar Cove RV Resort and this campground is on our top 5 list. Rent here is just $78.00 a week! Plus tax of course. It isn't just the affordable rent that puts it in our top 5, its the campground itself. It is just beautiful! Set in the desert with mountains all around.

Here's our site.
The biggest draw in this area would have to be Elephant Butte State Park.

The water level in this 36,000 acre lake is down about eight feet.

We really enjoyed our time in this park. The people here are super friendly and made us feel very welcome.
About a mile outside of the park was a VFW lodge that Bob went to several times and where we both attended a dinner dance. I even met an Eagles fan there.
We can see ourselves coming back to this area again.

Another lake scene.

Cactus.

Sunset over the mountains.

As I said before, we really enjoy our time here. We're not running out to see places or "things", we're using this time to relax. That's all, just relaxing. We have found you can only sightsee so much and there comes a time when you just have to be.

We did make several trips to Truth or Consequences because that is where the grocery store happens to be. No Walmart here, at least not yet. There is one being built and we've heard it will open in mid-December, after the first of the year, February and not until April. Who knows!
