Today we had the perfect day for our Opening Ceremony for the Quail Run Winter Olympics. The sky was blue, the sun was warm on our skin and we had the start of what is sure to be a fun week.
Today we had the Opening Ceremony for Olympics week.
There are four women who organized the whole week for us, getting the volunteers to head the different games, scheduling all the events being mindful of regularly scheduled activities, ordering the medals and just generally making sure that the games go off without a hitch. Even though the games haven’t started I already know that with their prior experience with this task and their attention to detail that we’re all in for a great week. So a hearty thank you in advance to (l to r) Barb, Carol, Janet and Jackie.
Here’s our friends Karen and Bob all decked out, showing their colors.
I don’t know if their “theme” was picnic in the park or what because she was adorned with paperplates…..
….and Bob’s “cape” was a tablecloth. Whatever it was, it worked!
We start the games off with a parade around the park.
Bob started it off as our torch bearer.
Each of the event coordinators carries a placard with their game name on it.
I liked this flag that portrays both countries, the USA and Canada.
The torch was passed from hand to hand as it made its way up and down every street in Quail Run. Eleven of our friends took part as torch bearers.
Eighty-something Jerry, made the final leg of the journey.
…..and then he lit the flame.
Dayle led the crowd in the Star Spangled Banner.
Our Opening Ceremony was very nice and a great way to start Olympic week.
There’s only one thing left to say.
LET THE GAMES BEGIN!
