10/1/07 Hello New Mexico!

Moving day. Put everything away, get ready to hit the road once again.
Today we left Texas and will move on to New Mexico. Everything went well with the exception of one little problem. Our mail. We had called Escapees, our mail forwarding service several days ago for our mail to be forwarded to us to the RV Park we've been in for the last few days. I thought for sure it would be here today. It wasn't. I even waited out on the main road with my chair, book and Pepsi waiting for the mail carrier to come in case it wouldn't fit in the standard sized mailbox the park has. The mail carrier came but he didn't have a package for us. What do we do now? We're packed and ready to go, not only packed, the truck is hooked up to the 5th wheel ready to roll. Do we stay another night? Do we go on? We decided to move. David, the mail carrier gave me a number to reach him to give a new address where we wanted the package forwarded to. It will catch up to us eventually. Thankfully, any bills that we may have are delivered electronically on our computers so the mail is made up mostly of our magazine subscriptions, copies of deposits made from the State of Delaware, credit union statements and the like. Its time to go!
We had a relatively easy run today, just about 200 miles. We got on the road around one and headed west.
It didn't take long to see the sign we've been waiting to see for a long time now. This is the first time either one of us has been in this state.

We've been wanting to see New Mexico for years now and the time has finally come. We'll be spending the next several weeks here seeing all this state has to offer.

We drove miles and miles seeing this....

We made our first stop in Hobbs, NM for fuel. They sure want you to know where you are in this state don't they?

There was road construction going on on almost every street in Hobbs so we were glad to get out on the open road again.

We made a "pit stop" further down the road and I snapped this picture of Bob standing in the field. I was praying no tarantula was going to hitchhike its way into the truck on Bob's pant leg!

It wasn't long before we reached our destination of Carlsbad. I have to tell ya, I was disappointed in their sign!

A view of the Pecos River as we passed through Carlsbad on our way to the campground.

So this is where we'll be for the next several days as there is a lot to see and do in this area. The campground we're in is a KOA that has been voted one of the ten best in the country. From what little we've seen of it to this point I can well understand the rating.

After a quick dinner we watched the 13 inning ballgame between the San Diego Padres and the Colorado Rockies to see who is going to be playing our Phillies. Looks like it will be the Rockies but I have my doubts about the last call made in the game.
