It's Luau in Quail Run!
It's here, the day I've been dreading looking forward to all year! The day that will start at an ungodly hour bright and early and the tired, cranky well rested, bright eyed and bushy tailed Activity Staff Members will arrive ready to go, go, go! WHO DOES SHE THINK SHE IS KIDDING????
Ann, wonderful, organized Ann. She was here early this morning, if one counts 6:00 A.M. early, and decided to line the cans of pineapple juice and the soda bottles up so they are nice and neat. Personally, I could think of a hundred other things to do at six in the morning....but this is our resident nut Ann!
Lots to be done today! Fruit dishes to be made...
This cantaloupe was soooo good! Melt in your mouth sweet!
Hawaiian Bread had to be cubed.
Snacks cups had to be filled with peanuts, raisins and M&M's. When I first heard about this I thought,,,,,YUCK!,,,,the combo is actually pretty good!
Our salsa was made and this task was left to the husband and wife team of Carol and George.
Frosted brownies topped with cherries are a treat that I bet won't last long.
Cookies lined the trays....
At the very end of the day we ran out of refrigerator room and had to improvise!
When there's a will, there's a way!
Bowls of chips will grace the snack tables.
GOTCHA! I caught you all tasting the snacks!
Soon it was 4:30, time for the Luau to start. Jim and Sharon Danielson, winter residents, volunteered to be greeters for us.
Sweet Betty made her skirt out of yard flags!
At five the tables started serving and it was a mad dash.
Once again, the team did an outstanding job in preparing a feast!
Outside, it was just an lovely day! We had a prediction of rain earlier in the week but the sun is out, the sky is blue and all is right with the Quail Run Luau.
Our friend, Marilyn, is just having a grand time! If her outfit doesn't scream "island life" I don't know what does.
Marilyn's husband, Wilf, having a great time too.
Even Bob and I had a minute to get our picture taken.
It was time for dancing. I was kind a worried about the entertainers who were booked last season for this luau when I found out who it was. Tom and Rusty have been here several times and never really struck me as a duo who could really get this group moving. In the past when they have been here most of the people just sat and listened because that is the kind of music they played. They did in fact get the group up and dancing but I wouldn't book them again for luau. They are good for what they do and everyone seemed to have to a good time but there are other groups better suited for a big party like this.
Looks like YMCA was playing when these were snapped.
For all of you Quail Runner's from last year.....look who's here!
Lucille and Oscar are doing great and having the time of their lives! As usual, once the dance music started, they never sat down!
So it's over for another year. The leftovers are stored, the tables cleared, the band packed up and gone. The winter residents are settling in for a nights sleep and quiet comes over the park. We made it, we survived another one.
And the plans have already started for Luau 2010.
