It is so hard to get around here on these streets. It seems they all start with the words "Santa" or "Del" and they run together after awhile. To these newcomers its a bit confusing to say the least.
We did venture out a bit today as we were getting low on food and thought we had better remedy that situation first. We set out to find the commissary and had no luck with that. We just sucked up our failure with that and pulled into the Safeway. After a few aisles and looking at the prices we knew we had to find the commissary. Now don't get me wrong, we can certainly afford to pay the prices they ask but if you know you can do a whole lot better at the commissary well its just a no-brainer that that is where you should be shopping. So we got directions (and found out we were soooo close before) and made the 10 minute trip to what used to be Fort Ord. Its still a military base, just not called Fort Ord anymore.
So we sailed up and down the aisles of the commissary, happy as clams. Happy as clams? Where did THAT come from? And what exactly makes clams happy? Anyway, we were happy to be in the commissary. We walked out with a fully loaded cart and our bank account balance lower but not that much lower!
After the commissary we went to the PX to look at toaster ovens. They didn't have anything I liked. Next stop? Target. They had EXACTLY what I wanted but not in stock. The Target near the commissary has four in stock I was told. I'll get it in a few days,,,I don't NEED it right now.
Here's a picture I took of what our view is out the kitchen window of our rig.
Not bad huh? Its the golf course here where we're staying. Its not open right now so we don't have to worry about golf balls coming through the windows of the rig. Its being remodeled? Renovated? Whatever they do to golf courses to make them "new" or better is what's being done here. Nice view anyway.
So that was pretty much our day. Driving the roads of Monterey, getting lost, sticker shock at the Safeway, bliss at the commissary, disappointment at the PX, frustration at Target and satisfaction at home when we filled the pantry. All in all, not a bad day.
Tomorrow we go sightseeing!
