8/16/2009 Sunday's "Snookie Shares"

Today I'm NOT going to tell you about how Bob and I slept in, didn't do anything to speak of and lounged around all day this rainy day. Nope, I'm not going there. Instead, I'm going to share some things with you that I find useful, enjoyable and just maybe, good stuff to know.

WEBSITES:

Do you have old cell phones, Ipods, gaming devices or any other type of electronic equipment that you just don't use anymore? Now you can get rid of them responsibly. Go to www.gazelle.com and you will be offered CASH for your old equipment. If it is simply too old to be of use, even for parts, this company will dispose of it properly for you. They will provide a box for you to send the equipment in AND pay the postage. This could even be a FUNDRAISER for your organization.

Are you a party animal? Do you invite people over for movie night? Will you be hosting a child's birthday party in the future? If so, this site is for YOU! We all seem to live by computer today and we should all be trying to be "green" wherever we can and this site combines the best of both worlds. Announce your next party or get together electronically by using www.pingg.com, no need for stamps and store bought invites. There are many designs to choose from for every occasion or you can create a custom invite by using a digital photo. I went to the site to try it out and found it easy to use. (There is a Designer Series for graphics which are available for a fee, but I liked the free ones just fine!) What I really liked about these invitations is that the invite is in the middle of the email, the recipient doesn't have to click on a link. FREE except for Designer Series graphics

Who doesn't like FREE STUFF? I was just told about this web site, www.shop4freebies.com by a friend of mine. She was able to get a coupon for 8 free hamburgers from Schwann's. I just snagged a free bar of home made soap. There's lots of personal size freebies out there just for the asking. I also signed up a free e-zine for arts and crafts. Of course you shouldn't use your regular email address when dealing with sites like this which may or may not generate junk mail. Start a new email address on one of the free email services such as g-mail or hotmail. Check it out....FREE IS GOOD!

BOOKS:

Dianne introduced me to author Kristin Hannah while she was here. When she finished the book she was reading, which she read every available minute she had, I picked it up and read it, every available minute I had. I couldn't put it down.

Now ladies, we all have those special women in our lives. best friend, BFF's, forever friends. Men may come and go throughout our lives, but ladies.... GIRLFRIENDS ARE FOREVER! This book, Firefly Lane, is a story about best friends. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll call your best friend as soon as you're done. Don't miss out on this one. I checked Amazon.com and used editions of the book are available as low as $2.39....or brand new for ten and change. This would be great for your reading/discussion group. Oversized Paperback; 479 pages. Seriously, don't miss out on this one.

COLLEGE HELP:

Enter a drawing to win $529.00 towards your child's or grandchild's college education. Click here to enter. You have till November 30, 2009 to enter and the contest is sponsored by SallieMae.

FOOD:

Being the self-proclaimed Queen of CHEAP, I hate to throw away food because it went bad before I could use it. I had often seen Debbie Meyer's Green Bags advertised on TV. You know the ones, put the fruit or veggies in these bags and they keep so much longer. To be honest, I didn't put much faith in them. Last winter, while walking through a Walmart I saw a special for these same type of bags on display. No they weren't Debbie Meyer's bags and they aren't green but yellow BUT they were on sale for half the price of the other bags. Half price works for me! So I bought a box of them up and threw them in a drawer when I got home and promptly forgot about them. I came across them in May and started to use them. THEY WORK! THEY REALLY WORK!

I bought a large container of fresh strawberries on August 3rd,,,,AUGUST 3RD, the day Dianne arrived. Thirteen days ago. Here are strawberries that didn't get eaten while she was here.

They are still FIRM and they weren't under-ripened when I bought them. Granted the leaves are a little past their prime but we don't eat the leaves anyway. Had I left them in the original plastic container these strawberries would be a science project by now.

I keep celery and carrots and lettuce in these yellow bags and each vegetable keeps for WEEKS! Even green leaf lettuce, it doesn't wilt or turn color.

Like I said earlier, I didn't use the nationally advertised bags, I used these: Forever Bags

So there you have it, the first Sunday's "Snookie Shares". If you know of a web site that you would like to share leave me a comment or email me.

EMAIL ADDRESS:

I was recently asked my email address by a reader. Here it is:

SnookieQ at AmericaOnLine dot com Figure it out, there are too many programs out there searching blogs for email addresses for me to just write it straight out.

Also, let me know what you think about today's post. Thumbs up or thumbs down.

Snookie --- have enjoyed, immensely, your wonderful narrative. So informative, lively, and told with grace and humor. The photos are fabulous. One of your readers said they probably wouldn't need to visit Alaska after reading your blog and seeing your photos....I see their point, but IMHO, I want to go there even more, now! thanks! See u in the Fall at QR.
