(Albuquerque, NM)
We arrived right on time this morning for our appointment with Tom's RV Service. I have to tell you, we both liked this man right away.
Jeff, our technician got right to work pulling our wheels off and diagnosed the problem right away. we had a caliper seize. Tom got on the phone right away and called our extended warranty company and got all the parts we needed ordered.
While we were there we asked that the rest of the tires be pulled and inspected also. It was a good thing we did this. The other calipers were also failing but had not failed as yet. Tom then called the caliper manufacturer and went to bat for us. Kodiak said that since we were out of the manufacturers warranty that they were not responsible. Tom pressed the issue and reiterated that all four calipers are failing at the same time. We’ve only had these since February of 2013 when we had everything replaced due to the Lippert oil filled axles failing. In light of this Kodiak agreed to replace the parts as a goodwill gesture. Installation will come from our pocket and we’re okay with that as long as we’re safe while traveling.
Of course we heard the usual delivery will take 7 – 10 days. Of course it will.
Our extended warranty would not cover the failing but not yet failed calipers. I don’t understand this, they ARE going to fail. It may be in 200 miles, it may not be until we travel 1200 miles. What happened to preventive measures?
Our big question now is WHY did all the calipers fail? We don’t know. The RV technician doesn’t know. Bob will research this to death online, I guarantee it.
We went back to the famcamp, got set back up and relaxed the rest of the day.
So now we wait.
