7/2/07 New Roofs for the Kabins

Today is the day Bob will start replacing the first of seven Kamper Kabin roofs. Matt, one of the "float boys" will help him with these roofing jobs. Matt is just the sweetest kid you would ever want to meet. He's 16 years old and helps Dan and Barb with the float business. He helps get the canoes and the rafts loaded for transport and then in and out of the river on weekends.

The tear off begins....

The tear off went fairly easily even though it was one of the hottest days we've had so far this summer.

Steady, Matt, we don't need you falling off the roof!

I don't know how old these Kamper Kabins are but the roofs are starting to leak when we have a driving rain so its time for them to be replaced.

Once Bob and Matt got into the swing of things the tear off went quickly.

See, that didn't take long did it?

Here's Matt hauling the old roofing material off to the dumpster.

A close up of Matt, such a nice young man. Truly, a good kid.

Actually, this didn't go as easily as it appears to have. Bob got called away from the job for awhile and the dumpster was filled before they knew it leaving no place to put the remainder of the cedar shakes. Dan ended up starting a fire to burn them.

Both Bob and Matt were glad this day was over as it really got HOT in the afternoon. It didn't help that they were wearing long pants, that's for sure!

We're off for the next two days so the roof was covered with a blue tarp to wait for the next step.

While Bob was busy on the roof I just did my normal everyday stuff.
