Whew, the final move for awhile is over and done with.
We left Branson this morning around eleven and arrived here in Stanton around three. It was an enjoyable ride with great roads and even greater scenery. I'll post the few pictures we took tomorrow.
When we arrived at the Stanton/Merimac KOA where we'll spend this summer we went into the office and asked if they had a vacancy. The fella behind the counter, Dan, the owner, replied that he had a spot with only water and electric available, would that be ok for us. I kind of winced and said, "Gee, I don't know we're planning on spending the summer." It was then he realized who we were and gave us a wonderful welcome.
This campground is situated just off I-44, sixty miles south of St. Louis. Nearby are the Merimac Caverns where Jesse James hid out so I'm sure we'll be making the two mile drive to see them.
This campground is on the small side with 30 pull through sites, 2 Kamper Kottages, 7 Kamper Kabins and 18 tent sites. Just the right size as far as Bob and I are concerned.
In addition, Dan and Barb also own the Crosseyed Cricket Canoe Company which takes canoeists and rafters on five mile floats down the Merimac River. We'll get to do that on our days off as a perk for working here.
Speaking of perks, in addition to the water rides we get free laundry, discounts in the store and restaurant, yes there is a restaurant too, and free WiFi which gives us a very strong connection for the Internet. There isn't any cable so our television selection is limited for now but we get the major channels with a clear picture. It looks like a satellite dish is in our future as we are very spoiled with a choice of seventy five channels to choose from with the extended cable that we are used to.
We were treated to dinner from the restaurant which serves pizza, ribs, chicken breast and pulled pork. We each ordered the pulled pork and our sides were potato salad, baked beans, corn on the cob and Texas toast. It was very good, but I have to say I like my potato salad better.
The pool is located directly across the street from our site. I like that! I didn't know they had a pool so that was a very pleasant surprise. There is also a pond for fishing and that makes Bob happy.
Bob already knows that his first job here will be building picnic tables. He is totally in his element with that. I do believe mine will be in the office/store.
Our first impressions of this campground and the owners are great! We think we will be very happy here.
It's been a long day, breaking camp, driving four hours and setting camp up again. We've been doing that way too often these past two weeks and we're just plain tired out.
This weekend we'll learn the lay of the land, do a BIG grocery shopping and clean the house from top to bottom, front to back. We've got a lot to do in the next three days before we start work on Tuesday.
So there it is, we're here safe and sound.
