We woke up this morning and it was cloudy and overcast and rain was predicted. We kept watching our neighbors get ready to pull out because once again, we made not acquaintances, but friends. Mike and Sherry are a couple we would go out of our way to meet up with again. They are taking off and of course we wanted to wish them safe travels.
They got off and not too long after the wind really picked up. Bob had wanted to do a few more things to the truck but the wind was so bad and the temperature had dropped significantly…well, it didn’t take too much more to change his mind.
We were both busy on our computers, half listening to what was on TV and constantly aware of the wind because the rig was really shaking. And then it started. Hail!
We’ve heard what Lewis & Clark went through with hail storms and we sat hoping the hail wouldn’t grow to be golf ball size. It’s a horrible feeling to listen to the hail beating against your rig and truck and there isn’t anything you do…..except pray.
It just seems to go on and on and on with no end in sight.
The ground started turning white with hail stones.
Then right in the middle of the icy downpour the sun came out. I kept looking for a spectacular rainbow but I couldn’t find it if there was one.
It was over just as quickly as it started. Hailing one second, then an eerie silence, no tapering off, it was like someone had pulled a switch, done, over. Don’t get me wrong, we were glad.
We gave it some time to clear up, we changed into warmer clothes and we went for our last commissary shopping trip for awhile. Oh, I cleaned up! It seemed everything I wanted was on sale and I had coupons for it to boot.
Since tomorrow is a moving day,,,,HOORAY,,,,,we decided on pizza for dinner. Less clean up that way.
That was our day.
