10/2/07 Learning the Lay of the Land

Today we took a long ride to learn the lay of the land, where things are. We are situated about 15 miles outside of Carlsbad so see to anything of note we have to take a bit of a ride.

We had to go into town today to find an RV store to get some replacement water hoses as the ones we have are damaged. In addition to hoses we had to get replacement screens for our water line, a new sewer hose and a few other odds and ends. When I was in the office at the campground I had asked where a RV store is and I was given a coupon for 10% off on any parts that we might buy. Ten percent isn't all that much when you are only spending $40.00 but its four bucks in our pocket and that works for me!
We tried to find a local VFW lodge as Bob likes to visit one each city we go to. We found the lodge but it wasn't open. I'm sure we'll get back there before we leave.
Of course what would a day to a new city be without a trip to Walmart? We made a stop to get some food for the pantry before heading back to the campground.

I took these pictures of our campground when we got back.

The entrance.

Our site.

The view from "our yard".

Painted benches in a sitting area outside of the campground office.

One of many cactus plants.

Goldfish in the pond next to the hot tub. Some of the biggest goldfish I've ever seen.

A portion of the mural on the community room wall.

So that was pretty much our day. A tour of the town, a stop for shopping, twice, and a chance to take in some beautiful scenery. We'll take that over a day at work anytime.
