4/1/2010 We Are TIRED!!!

Back and forth. Back and forth. We walk back and forth dozens of times a day from the park model to the 5th wheel which is about 100 – 125 feet away. Then take into account the three steps we walk down to get out of the park model and the three steps we walk up to get into the 5th wheel and take into the equation whatever we’re carrying, well darn it, we’re tired!

Bob had to put a new “rubber ring” in the toilet in the 5th wheel because the bowl wasn’t holding water and then he had to add extra wood to the flooring in the closet where our new freezer is going. Well, these tasks shot nearly a whole day when a trip to Lowe’s and the RV parts place is taken into consideration and the tight spaces he had to work in didn’t help either.

Everything has now been wiped down and the surface dust/dirt is gone. We learned a hard lesson this year. When we put the 5th wheel in storage back in October, we had temps in the 100’s. We thought it best if we cracked two windows. We did cut a furnace filter to fit the windows and left the windows open an inch or less. We figured the filters would prevent any dust/sand from entering. We figured wrong. Here is what we found when we got the 5th wheel into place and could open the slides and really get a good look at the place. What a mess!

Every little ledge is covered in this fine red dust.

Can you imagine how much dust/dirt is in the carpeting? I vacuumed and vacuumed and vacuumed and got so much of the stuff out of the carpet that my empty vacuum canister had a good two inches of sand when I was done. (OMG, is there anything I WON’T take a picture of?)

We are going to steam clean the carpets before we leave to make sure we get the last bits of sand out. I hope I got as much as I think I did out of the carpet or I could have a muddy mess on the my hands.

It was good feeling to just get the dust covers off of everything and we are so glad that we covered most everything with sheets!

The desk only had a very thin layer of dust on it under this sheet, what you would normally get in the course of a couple days.

I’ve gone through every closet and drawer and got rid of a whole bunch of stuff that stayed in the 5th wheel over the winter. We didn’t miss it, didn’t use it, didn’t feel it was important enough to take to the park model with us…..so its gone. Actually, got rid of, probably isn’t an accurate description, we put it in a pile for our participation in the yard sale next year.

The canned/boxed goods from the kitchen have been moved over and put away. All glass and mirrors have been cleaned/polished inside the rig. The bed has been made with clean sheets, the towels washed and put away,,,,we’re getting there. A few more days and we’ll be on our way. We’re planning on pulling out of here on Monday.
