5/1/2011 Your HELP is Needed

I read over what I wrote about the last few days and had a chance to sit and reflect about what we experienced versus the very real catastrophic weather conditions that our southern neighbors experienced. In retrospect, I can’t say we had anything more than a windy day in comparison.

Our southern neighbors needs help. If you are so inclined but aren’t sure where to go to contribute I have listed below a group of well known charities that are always in the forefront when disaster strikes. Open your wallets, help is needed. Yes, it happened four days ago but the need is still very real.

Ladies, and you know who you are, thanks for the info on the charities listed below.

The Salvation Army
Financial donations are needed to support disaster relief efforts. The Salvation Army asks those who want to help to visit http://www.salvationarmyusa.org/ or call 1-800-SAL-ARMY and designate April 2011 Tornado Outbreak. Donors may text “GIVE” to 80888. Checks may be made out to The Salvation Army Disaster Relief, P.O. Box 100339, Atlanta, GA 30384-0339. Monetary donations will ensure The Salvation Army can meet the most immediate needs of those impacted by disaster.

The Red Cross
The Red Cross depends on financial donations to help in times of disaster, both here in the United States and around the world. Those who want to help can make a donation to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. To make a donation, visit
http://www.redcross.org/, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P.O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013.

Feeding America
Deadly tornadoes have struck the southern U.S. in six states – Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Arkansas, Virginia and Tennessee. There have been many fatalities and the devastation is severe. This is in addition to recent flooding due to storms in Indiana.

Our food banks — in the affected areas and across the U.S. — are ready to help victims in need of food assistance as well as the daily disaster of hunger in America that affects 50 million people.

The best help you can offer your local food bank is a financial donation. Use our locator to find your local food bank or the food banks of affected states.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster
Our thoughts are with the families and communities in the south that have been affected by the severe storms and tornadoes that have ripped through the region.

A very inspiring post! Thanks for getting the word out. I was a Red Cross Disaster Volunteer for a number of years. There is nothing more blessed than to know you have helped someone that can't even think of the next minute. It is a very rewarding job.
