10/14/2011 We Move to the Valley

We all took off and left Fort Sam Houston for some civilian digs in the Rio Grande Valley. None of us have been down in the Valley before so we’ll have lots to explore and see and do.

It took us about five hours to make the drive down and the most interesting thing I saw on the way was this. I just love a good dust devil!

It seems the RV parks down in the area where we are were all built back in the 70’s when the largest RV was a 24 foot pull behind. Can you say T-I-G-H-T ? It took Bob some serious back and forth to get our big rig in between a park model and a tree but he did it! I think the problem was there were four people telling him what to do at the same time and it was just overwhelming as you can well imagine.

Joy and DeWayne won’t be here until tomorrow. They took a side trip to Corpus Christi to see a friend of theirs and will catch up with us tomorrow afternoon.

We knew Pat and Dann left about an hour after we did but couldn’t imagine what the holdup was when they didn’t arrive after we were in place for an hour or so. Pat finally called and said that they were less than a mile from the entrance to the park and they were sideswiped. Both their truck and rig were damaged. The lady who sideswiped them was on the phone and ended up copping an attitude towards them! The nerve! So they had to wait for police to arrive and a report to be taken before they could come in that last 3/4 of a mile. Thankfully the lady who hit them has insurance!

After all that, poor Dann had to come in and face these tight back in spaces. It just wasn’t his day.

We’ll wait for Joy & DeWayne to get here, get settled and then we’ll start exploring.
