10/8/11 Leaving New Mexico For Awhile This Time

We pulled into a an Escapees Park in Deming, New Mexico for the night yesterday. If we would be up and out by 8:30 this morning we wouldn’t be charged for any electric we used. We were up and out and the road south by seven!

We had hoped to meet up with Valerie and Jerry, a couple we became forever friends with South Dakota this summer, today for lunch but we passed the point where we would meet way earlier than lunch time and since the roads were clear we just kept going. Hopefully, we’ll be seeing them soon anyway.

We weren’t on the road too awful long before we saw this sign.

We feel like all we’ve done for the past few weeks is drive in and out of New Mexico and Texas.

Today was no different!

Yep, back in Texas for awhile. Meeting up with some great friends, going to do lots of sightseeing and enjoy Texas instead of just driving through.

For the most part we had the road to ourselves today.

I saw a dust devil form a little swirl to this in just seconds. Traveling 60 miles an hour we don’t get to keep our eye on something too long.

We stopped for the evening, after a long 300 plus mile trek, in Fort Stockton, Texas. We met a couple in the site next to us that are “trying out” this lifestyle. He loves it! She hates it! He’s ready to go back to North Carolina and put the house up for sale. She just wants to go home. I’ve said it time and again, this lifestyle isn’t for everyone. I feel sad for the couples that can’t agree on this. I’m so thankful Bob and I are on the same page.

There was a little restaurant in the campground and we had dinner with our neighbors. I don’t think we ever exchanged names now that I think about it. They were seated first and just motioned for us to come over and sit down with them. We had a choice of five items on the menu and I have to say, this country cookin’ was good! I had the ribs and Bob chose the catfish filets. Mashed potatoes, Italian green beans, a biscuit and a slice of cake and our choice of iced tea or coffee rounded out the dinner.

We watched movies back in the 5th wheel as only two channels of TV were available out here and we couldn’t pick up either one.

Early to bed, another early morning tomorrow.
