2/20/2010 This and That

Well, its over. Another Olympic Week in Quail Run has come and gone. Medals are now hanging on the hook for all to see or already put away in a drawer. Ours are sitting on the dresser right now until I can get our others that are in the 5th wheel. Once we get them all together we’ll either pick a place for our hook or decide which drawer they’ll go into.

Friday night we had the annual Cancer Survivor Party here in the park. This is a party given by Lin Stover and Darlene Wilson to celebrate Darlene’s breast cancer survival and to honor Lin’s husband, Bruce, who lost his battle with cancer. At least that’s how it started. Now its to celebrate everyone’s survival and to honor all those who we know that have lost the battle. And what a party it is! It’s open to everyone in the park who wants to attend, but you must get there early if you want to get in. There is no charge to attendees as Lin and Darlene foot all the costs for the party to include Carol Powers the DJ and the decorations and whatever party favor is given out and that changes from year to year. This year it was a rubber bracelet that had the word Survivor imprinted on it if in fact you are a Survivor and if not then you got one that had the word Hope imprinted on it.

In addition to dancing and drinking and eating, some ladies in the park make snacks to share, there is also a serious side to the party. A collection is taken and all the proceeds go to the ladies here in Quail Run known as “Helping Hands”. I’ve written about this group before and you can read about it here. This year the wonderful people here in Quail Run dug deep into their pockets and over ::::drum roll please::: $1100.00 was collected! This will buy a lot of material and new scissors and lots of batting! I am so proud of us!

I was sent this video of two baby moose playing in the backyard of someone’s home with a water sprinkler. I’m adding it here because I would bet dollars to donuts that not many of you get to see something like this in real life and I think it is so darn cute! So enjoy! Click HERE to watch them play.

My friend LaVon sent me this joke and I thought it was pretty good….

A man was driving when he saw the flash of a traffic camera. He figured that his picture had been taken for exceeding the limit, even though he knew that he was not speeding... Just to be sure, he went around the block and passed the same spot, driving even more slowly, but again the camera flashed. Now he began to think that this was quite funny, so he drove even slower as he passed the area again, but the traffic camera again flashed. He tried a fourth time with the same result. He did this a fifth time and was now laughing when the camera flashed as he rolled past, this time at a snail's pace.....
Two weeks later, he got five tickets in the mail for driving without a seat belt… You can't fix stupid.

Do you remember making hand puppets on the wall when the light was just right when you were a kid? Here is a video of a master of hand puppets! Enjoy this video of Raymond Crowe doing his magic. Simply amazing.

image Did you know there are more Catholic Churches than casinos in Las Vegas? I was surprised when I heard that.

Not surprisingly, some worshippers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed. Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting and then the chips are taken to the casino of origin and cashed in. This is done by the chip monks.

You didn’t even see that coming did you?

And on that note I’ll close this.
