It was a good night for sports if you are Philadelphia fan. The Flyers are moving ahead in the playoffs and our Phillies are hot, hot, hot!
Bob spent the day fishing the incoming and outgoing tides. He is a happy camper!
My friend Cindy came and picked me up and we went back to her house to spend the day. We had every intention of cleaning out her shed but the bees got the best of us and that was quickly abandoned. We did however get some stuff cleaned out and the garbage cans are overflowing, so it wasn’t a total loss even though we didn’t get done all we wanted.
I think another factor came into play, for me at least, while it was a beautiful day, sunny and the mid-80’s the humidity was creeping up and that's something we’re just not acclimated to yet. Bob and I haven’t had to deal with humidity in nearly two years now and it doesn’t take long for it to take its toll on us.
After dinner we watched the clouds starting to roll in and we had been hearing we were in for a storm. A bad storm. We even put on our weather radio on for awhile for continuous updates. There are some staying in tents in the park and Bob let them know that strong storms were on the way. There was one camping party that put a large screen room up as pictured below. They didn’t seem the least bit phased that a storm was coming.
It started with rumbling off in the distance. It was coming. I started reading messages on Facebook from friends in Wilmington, 86 miles away, that they were getting a bad storm. And the thunder got louder. The winds picked up. The rain started. Lightning lit up the sky now that darkness had fallen. Sharp streaks that last a few seconds in the sky, the kind that made you say, “ooohhhhh” and made the hair on the back of your neck stand up. Even though we have jalousie windows, the kind that open “out” , we still had to close them because the wind was blowing so hard it was raining sideways. We waited for strikes of lightning so that we could see if the screen house was still standing. It wasn’t. Several trucks turned their headlights on so that when their tents blew over they could at least see where they went and they could keep track of their belongings that they didn’t get put away in time. Bob tried to tell them. For about 10 minutes the storm seemed to settle just above us and the thunder CRACKED and lightning was striking all around us. We lost our Directv connection and we were waiting for the power to go out. Luckily, it didn’t. This was one storm we were glad moved on. It seemed to last forever. Ahhhhh,,, life oceanside,.
