(Rehoboth Beach, DE)
You can always tell Sunday’s around here. Everyone goes home. The boat ramp was comfortably busy. I wasn’t running around like a chicken with its head cut off. One boat came to be launched and then after a comfortable interval another did. Nice and easy.
Bob also had a very easy afternoon and was home early.
Ronnie is making dinner for us tonight. He brought his Weber Smoker grill with him and he’s smoking a prime rib roast for us.
Ronnie makes his own rubs and spends his mornings chopping and mincing and dicing to get the perfect blend of herbs.
We were sitting outside at the picnic table waiting for the rib roast to finish resting before slicing and Bob had an incident with a seagull.
Now they say this a good luck thing. If that’s the case, from the looks of this we should be runnin’ out and getting’ lottery tickets.
It finally came time for the carvin’. Ronnie donned his Kevlar gloves and then added a pair of purple rubber gloves over those.
And this is his masterpiece. Your mouth is watering isn’t it?
Let the carving begin…. (I’ve never seen a blue knife before)
Ronnie has some friends who are into cooking for BBQ competitions. They asked Ronnie if they could rent his motorhome and he said no but asked why they wanted it. They explained they that they were going to a competition and he said he would drive the motorhome for them and he do whatever was needed to help them out. He is now part of Lower, Slower, BBQ. They have shirts made up but his name tag doesn’t say Ronnie or even Ron. Nope, he’s Cletus. Cletus?!? We won’t even go there.
Ron entered his own entry into a BBQ competition and I believe it was a rib roast, and if it wasn’t you can be sure I’ll hear about it. Anyway, on his first competition he earned 9th place out of a field of 62 seasoned BBQ competitors. He’s # 1 in our book!
We finally sat down to eat and were we ever ready! Besides the prime rib we had corn on the cob, a squash & tomato dish I make, the pineapple-cheese dish I make and huge baked potatoes!
Sitting around the table after we stuffed ourselves silly, we were kidding Melissa about how she had to get some sun. She put her hand on Bob’s arm this time.
We weren’t paying attention to the time and before we knew it we had missed the sunset. We sat and talked until the mosquitoes chased us home and inside.
What a great meal! What great company! What a great day!
