Its time to move on in our awesome journey. We left the campground that we liked so much around nine. Our first stop was to see the monument about 40 miles from where we were staying. We're going to visit the "Four Corners".
The Four Corners is the only place in the United States where four states come together at one place. Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado make up the Four Corners. Here a person can put each of their hands and feet in four states at the same time. The unique landmark is on Navajo Nation land and is open for visits from the public. There were a lot of people here when we visited so getting a picture of one of us with our hands and feet in the four states was going to be difficult to do. I did manage to get a few second window when no one was walking across the monument to snap a picture.
Bob also snapped pictures of each state seal.
Both the Navajo and Ute people live in the area and both were represented in the "shops" set up around the attraction. They sold jewelry, pottery, fry bread and a few other things in their "stores".
Our destination today was Farmington, New Mexico. You may recall me writing in the past about us staying in a Mom and Pop campground. Well it was bound to happen sooner or later. Tonight we are staying in......
It really isn't much more than a gravel parking lot but when you are just stopping for the night its all you need.
There was no cable, no WIFI, (I'm writing this in LiveWriter tonight but I have a feeling I won't get to post it for a few days) no laundry room but Mom and Pop went out of their way with a three page offering of everything there is to see and do in the area, complete with every restaurant listed in a 20 mile radius.
It seems Pop is a real train buff with the display he has set up outside the office.
I asked about the display while I was getting us registered and he explained that while he doesn't run the trains anymore he hasn't lost his interest in them and he keeps the displays in good repair.
Everything was very detailed and I can only imagine how many hours of work went into building this. And how many hours it must take to keep it in good order.
I've been working on the railroad.... (I hope that doesn't make the song stick in your head all day now.) (Of course since I've written that you know it will happen to some of you.)
Pop went on to explain that he makes the die cast figures and paints each one. In fact, in the office there are shelves and shelves of the figures for sale.
He even made a plaster over chicken wire mountain for the trains to run through.
I saw this tin man hanging from the porch roof.
So this RV park was nothing fancy but it was a place that was safe for us to stop for the night, what more can you ask for when just passing through?
