Labor Day Weekend! Where oh where did this summer go? I've often heard that after the 4th of July summer just flies by and this summer is certainly a testament to that old adage!
On Friday of this long holiday weekend we headed down to the cottage and stopped at Baker's Restaurant in Elkton, Maryland for dinner. This restaurant which celebrates 50 years this year is one that we've eaten in many, many times. When I was a kid and we would stop on the way to the cottage every Friday night and now my parents still stop there for dinner on their way. As usual we all had a very good meal.
On to the cottage....
Saturday, Bob's birthday, we hung around the cottage, took walks and sat in the sun. Mom broke a jigsaw puzzle and we put that together. Even Bob got into the act and put his share of the pieces in.
Even though there were lots of old friends down this weekend I was reluctant to leave the cottage because I'm now aware that we have just a few days left and I want to spend these last days with my parents. I find that I'm like mom's shadow, if she moves to another room I'm right there with her. Time is going by much too fast for me.
We had steamed shrimp for dinner again and we all thoroughly enjoyed that!
Sunday brought us a beautiful day and we loaded into the car and went to my brother and sister-in-law's home for more crabs.
Billy and Michelle invited several of their friends over to enjoy the feast also. We spread out lots of newspapers on the table in the gazebo and settled for our second of crabs.
Here's one of the bushel and a half that will be cooked.
Ugly critters aren't they?
One by one they are lowered into the steaming pot.
Bob adds the Old Bay seasoning.
Billy's work is done, they just have to cook now.
Everyone shows their crabs....
Bob intent on eating his.

Dad won't even smile for the camera, he is so intent on his crab eating.
Glenn picks out every last piece of meat from his.
Judy had her fill and sits out under the umbrella.
We finished off the whole bushel and a half except for maybe a dozen. In addition to the crabs we had salads, roast beef in gravy sandwiches and fresh tomatoes. Another day,,,,another feast!
We went back to the cottage afterwards and sat out on the deck for awhile until the mosquitoes drove us indoors.
On Monday, Bob and I left early so that we could meet up with his son, Timothy and his family for dinner. Tim said it took him four hours to drive the 90 miles from Rehoboth to home because the Labor Day Beach traffic was so bad. We don't miss that!
This is an email I received from Steve in Utah where our rig is while we're here in Delaware....
Dear Snookie and Bob,
Just wanted to give you an update from hear in Utah. Your rig is doin jus fine.
I guess you heard about the win storms we had. Well everythin came out ok. We had a bunch of trees blowed over but nun harly tuched the trayler, sceptin one tiny little limb. Jed (the hired hand) got his bondo out and touched up the roof a little.
The heavy rains we had dint hurt nothin neither ceptin maybe a teensy weensy bit of rain might huv got in the trayler roun Jed's bondo. Quit runnin out from uner the door in jus a couple of days though so koont a bin much.
Jed had to git tween the trayler and the tree with the tractor and mowr to do a lil hayin in the back forty. We maysured 15 difernt ways to mak sure it wud fit an I think it wud a ifin hid a gon thru nice an slo, but you know ol Jed he likes to git a run on thins an I don think he hit it quite ded center. He wedged that sucker in ther perty good. After sawin back an forth five or six times we got it thru though. Jed got the bondo out agin (did you know in theez prts Jeds nown as king of the Bondo?)an patched up a cuple of tiny lil holes an it looks perty good.
Other than that we aint had not other problems.
Those dern nabor kids do love to thro rocks. I caut them out ther throin rocks at a bug crawlin up the side of the truck. Thay caint thro very good tho caus they kept missin the bug and hittin the winows. I drug em over to ther Pa and tol him to tan ther hides for throin rocks. Seems to hav don the trik.
We had those dern fires that came awful clos. We got out ther with the hoses and kep it away from the house and yer rig. Got awful hot tho, did you kno that stuff those traylers is made of does funny stuff wen it gits hot. Ifen thos tires hadnt already been flat they probably would have popted.
So you kin see we bin takin good care of your rig and it's in fin shape
Don you wurry none and injoy your vacashon. Weer takin good kare of thins here.
