Up early this morning for today is the day. As much as we hated to leave the Laney’s, our neighbors, we were anxious to tow our 5th wheel.
Since we haven’t been on the road in awhile it took us a little longer to get going today. We were checking and re-checking our own stuff and double checking what each other had done to make sure we had all the bases covered. It was finally time to start the truck.
I guided Bob out of our space and when he got the truck and rig totally on the road I jumped into the front seat. We just looked at each other and smiled. We’re going home.
We stopped at a checkpoint but were only asked if we were US citizens. If the sign pictured below is any indication, they are certainly doing their job.
Our first stop is the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi. (NASCC)
NASCC is the largest helicopter repair facility in the world. This base is also known for its pilot training. Personnel from the Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard earn their wings in this facility.
Personnel serving in the U.S. Navy, U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Air Force, U.S. Coast Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the military services of numerous NATO –Allied -Coalition partner nations all train, work and live on this base.
The famcamp is located right on the water. I had made a reservation a week ago but didn’t get our site assigned until we arrived. As the young woman was looking to see what was available I told her that we had been cooped up in a small space for the last 6 months and would really appreciate a site with space and a view. Did she ever take care of us! Here’s our view out of all of our windows on one side and out the back.
There is nothing between us and the water. There is a good sized fishing pier that is just a two minute walk from our place. Bob is a happy camper.
One thing we don’t like though. As much as we complained about the wind in Mission, that was a gentle breeze compared to the wind here. It never, ever stops. Never.
This is Bob’s view out the window over the desk where his computer is. Not bad, eh?
So this is where we’ll be for the next few days.
