11/10/08 What a Busy Day!

Today was the day that the Red Team starts their three day work session. It was a busy one to say the least.

The guys set up the chairs in the Carnaval Room for the Veteran's Day Service we'll have tomorrow, Kim and Ginny made sure things ran smoothly in the office, Jim worked at home on the next edition of our newsletter and Mary and I went shopping for the food for our luncheon tomorrow.

We made out our shopping list and headed for Casa Grande to hit the sales in three stores. This Queen of Cheap at work! We're having hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, fruit cocktail, cake and corn chips plus all the trimmings and we've got to buy enough to feed eighty four. We shopped for industrial sized cans of baked beans and fruit cocktail, got corn chips ten bags for ten dollars, hamburger was on sale which made me very happy and even found hot dogs at a good price.

Mary and I debated on pre-made frozen hamburgers but finally decided on getting fresh ground and having the team make the patties. We are such a team when shopping together. We looked at quarter sheet cakes and decided we could make cakes much cheaper. Two cakes would have cost us a little over $50.00 (including tax) had we bought them but we made for them for less than $17.00.

Getting back to the resort we quickly unloaded the truck and everyone set to work. Bill and Paul made the hamburger patties, Kim and Ginny made the cakes and while they were baking sliced and chopped the onions, sliced the tomatoes, pulled the heads of lettuce apart and got the condiments into bowls all ready for tomorrow.

In the meantime I took care of paperwork, returned a few calls, made the iced tea and checked out the new craft we had going on in the Oasis.

New to the resort this year is Judy's Sparklers.

Here's Marilyn Lane hard at work ironing her sparkles onto her shirt.

I talked with the women who got involved with this class and they said the hardest part was picking out the pattern they wanted to use. I could understand that because there were so many to choose from. Judy, who held the class, even brought a lot of shirts already done so that the ladies in the park could come in and just shop if they didn't want to make their own. I'm going to get in on the next class. For twenty dollars, you got the shirt, (nice T's) the pattern, the instruction and everything was provided, including the irons! This class went over very well!

So it was a busy day for us in the Activity Department and its about time!
