11/14/08 Our First Donut Show

We didn't really have a show about donuts. This morning Beaudry RV brought in two rigs, the third one got lost along the way, for us to see. We had coffee and donuts for everyone and the RV center gave away prizes. Bob and I were given Beaudry Rv pullover jacket type things and a large canvas tote as a courtesy.

I've been calling around this past week to get the best price on donuts and have found that price of everything has gone up. Last year we paid $3.99 per dozen and this year they are a dollar more. Discounts aren't being given this year. A sign of the times I guess in this troubled economic climate. I called one shop named Rico's on the advice of the coordinators I met with last week. Wow! $5.99 a dozen. I told Gary, the man I talked with that he was much higher than everyone else but thanks anyway. He explained that the others, Albertson's, Walmart, Fry's and the rest all used frozen product and he uses nothing but fresh. I told him I could appreciate that but he was still too high for my pocketbook. I told him that if he came down to $4.59 a dozen he would get my business the rest of the season. I never thought he would go for that but much to my surprise he agreed. I was told how good these donuts were and was looking forward to tasting them.

At 7:30 this morning two of the Activities staff members took off on the donut run. They picked up nine dozen donuts and I can see already where I'll have to get at least 13 dozen, if not 14 dozen, next month when we do this again.

Were the donuts all I heard they would be? You betcha! Everyone was commenting on how good they were. Here's Jim, head of maintenance, going back for number 2.

When all was said and done there were six donuts left, all the same kind. I guess the large size sprinkles on them were a turn off because no one ate that kind. I'll have to make sure that we don't get those next month.

It was quiet in the afternoon with nothing for the activities team on duty to do. I sent them home early and used the quiet time to double check the details for the Craft Fair we're having at the end of the month. I went over the assignment of tables to make sure that two people selling the same thing aren't set up next to each. I don't think that would go over well if there were. Our craft fair tables are sold out and we're still getting calls for tables. I hope its a warm day because we're going to be setting the overflow up in the Breezeway, a covered, but open area.

At three o'clock on the dot I called it a day.

At 6:00 we met up with about a dozen of our new friends at the Moose Lodge for a rib dinner. The place was packed, mostly with Quail Run residents and unfortunately, they ran out before we were able to get served. On to Plan B. We went to Chris' Restaurant, a place that opened last year while we were here. There was a fellow there who was entertaining us with Sinatra songs as we ate. Everyone had a delicious meal and we were all glad the Moose ran out of ribs I think. Everyone commented that they would certainly come back again for dinner. I think Friday night dinners out may become the norm this season.

That's it for today!
