11/9/08 Our First Ice Cream Social of the Year

I was in Fry's grocery store by eight-thirty this morning filling my cart with ten half gallon containers of ice cream, chocolate syrup, butterscotch topping, frozen sliced strawberries and chopped pecans. All the makings for our first ice cream social of the year.

This is something new for Activities as this was something that was usually run by a resident volunteer. Marlene and her husband Gary, did it last year and I can see where it would get tiresome because they had an ice cream social every week. They couldn't plan anything for Sunday afternoons. Now that the Activity department has taken this over (no other residents stepped forward to take this task over) it will be held on the 2nd and 4th Sunday's. It certainly makes for an easy day for the team on duty when this rolls around, four people to serve ice cream for an hour.

Here's Steve chopping pecans, getting ready for the onslaught of ice cream eaters.

Here's Ginny Dexter getting her ice cream fixed just the way she likes it. For all Quail Run residents from last year, Ginny is doing just fine, she had some health problems over the summer but looks great now and feels fine!

Even FLAT STANLEY made it to our ice cream social. Bev, who works in the office was sent this by one of her grandchildren. I've seen a lot of these in the park.

I want you to meet Dave. Dave is Bev's husband. I feel sorry for Bev. Real sorry. Dave takes great delight in giving me a hard time. Little does Dave know that I can take it and can give it even better than he does. Its gonna be a long winter for Dave.

Our first ice cream social was a success! We sold thirty one bowls of ice cream and that ain't bad considering how a lot of the winter residents aren't here yet.

It was overcast all day and when I got home the heaven's opened. Now when it rains where you are you probably don't get too excited. Here in the desert, us winter residents run for our cameras.

The rain soon gave to way to hail. All that white stuff is hail stones!

Bob watching the storm, hoping our screen room holds up in the storm we're having. Thunder, lightning, hail, wind and I'm happy to say its still standing!
