12/30/06 Great Day for a Picnic!

We woke to sunny skies this morning and we started right in on the final preparation for our picnic today. Coolers were packed, our ladder golf game put in the truck, our stereo system and its power pack were loaded and soon we were off to Fred Howard Park. We were on our way by 8:30 even though the rest wouldn't arrive until 11 or 11:30. The pavilions are on a first come, first serve basis and we wanted to make sure we got the one we wanted. Needless to say we were the first ones in the park! We picked a pavilion with a view of the Gulf of Mexico. Right near our pavilion we also had horseshoe pits and the always needed rest rooms. We unloaded all we brought with us and waited. Thank heavens I brought a book to read!

Everyone must have been anxious to get the day started to because by 10:30 the others started arriving. You just can't believe how much food we had! Everyone brought one dish to share and the majority of us brought two. We could have fed a small third world country! Bob was in charge of the grill as shown below.

We played ladder golf, horseshoes, took walks on the trails, sat on the benches overlooking the Gulf, sat and talked and laughed and ATE. Oh boy did we eat!

We ended up with 23 of us for the picnic. We ranged in ages from 53 (I was the baby of the group) to 82. Here's a picture of the picnic participants.

From everything we heard, everyone had a great time and we heard numerous times, "When is the next picnic?"
